The Axial® AXP8 Gilamon Underdrive Portal Gears (12T/29T) are an upgraded portal gear set for the 1/8 AXP8 Gilamon 2.2 4X4 RTR Brushed Trail Buggy. These gears reduce the rear wheel speed relative to the front, improving climbing control, reducing torque twist, and enhancing traction for better off-road performance.

Underdrive

Underdrive portal gears improve climbing control by slowing the rear wheels, allowing the front to pull the vehicle over obstacles and reducing the risk of flipping. They also reduce torque twist, enhancing stability on uneven terrain. The slight difference in wheel speeds improves traction and steering response, aiding in tight turns and rock crawling. Additionally, underdrive gears put less strain on drivetrain components, extending their lifespan. However, they are not ideal for high-speed driving and require proper gear matching for balanced performance.
